Healthy Bodies Come in All Sizes
In this image obsessed society, it is ESSENTIAL to both our MENTAL and PHYSICAL
health that we become clear on what "healthy" is for us.
What we're after is OUR personal best. We need to get over
trying to attain ideals that are genetically unavailable to us. We need to let
go of societal ideals of perfection that can discourage us from being content
with our true selves. We need to find a way to love our own true bodies, at
their best, TODAY!
How? First off, be realistic about your
DNA!
We are all at the mercy of it, and it's one
thing that we cannot change. There are 3 different general body types- which
is the dominant you?
ECTOMORPH: Lean and narrow frame, not much of a
defined waist, small boned.
MESOMORPH: This middle frame is "stocky",
builds muscle easily, noticable chest & shoulders, narrow hips, even fat
distribution.
ENDOMORPH: This softer, rounder body stores fat
in the face, hips, and thighs.
Many physiques combine aspects of more than one type, but most
of us can see that we have a dominant body type. What will lead us to great
frustration is aiming at a body type that is NOT OUR OWN! We want to be us, and
love us, and do our best to be our best. We do NOT want to get caught up in the
insanity of trying to be something we're not...right?
All 3 body types can be overweight, so your first goal is to
reduce your body fat to the proper amount through doing enough exercise and
eating right. Here's the scoop. Ectomorphs, while well suited for cardio
endurance, can get away with doing the least amount of cardio while still
maintaining a proper weight. Mesomorphs have to still do cardio, but will find
themselves at home in the Weight Room, easily defining their strong bodies.
Endomorphs have the toughest time. They have to do the most cardio just to
maintain. Their bodies don't register strength work as quickly as their
counterparts, therefore they are the most prone to discouragement and giving
up.
DON'T GIVE UP! Do, however, realize that your end
result will vary based on body type!
Healthy bodies are not a particular size. For example, experts so that the
Hollywood size zero to 2 is an impossibility for 95% of real women without being
anorexic or bulimic.
A "real" woman can enjoy good health in a size 12, and many do! We're
looking for our health defined by good cholestrol, a healthy heart, stable blood
pressure, balanced hormones. Is our BMI 20-25? What's the % of body fat? Our
health is effected and reflected by the amount of regular exercise we perform,
whether or not our food intake is nutritional and portion controlled. Are we
managing and releiving stress? Getting enough sleep? These are all good health
indicators, more important than a size of clothing or a number on a scale.
So, set your ideals based on genetics and
your age, choosing a goal that you can MAINTAIN, not just
attain. Adjust your reality to your ideals. Do what
you need to do in regard to food, exercise, stress, sleep, hormones, adrenals.
