Wow, it's nearly 2010! The Oaks at Ojai is celebrating its 32nd year and is still touted by the press as America's most affordable teaching spa (see October's
Clean Eating Magazine). Work out, enjoy healthy spa cuisine, and pamper yourself while learning to adopt an activity-oriented lifestyle. Eat nutritionally 80% of the time, and the other 20% can be healthy or decadent!
Balancing your lifestyle with at least three aerobic workouts a week (just walk briskly for 45 minutes). Add some ab work and weightlifting. Be physically active on weekends (gardening, bike riding, etc). And remember to add some fun!
Did you see The Oaks in the August 2009 issue of
Spa Magazine? We occupied five color pages
and the cover. But it's not just The Oaks that makes news! Many of you may remember our youngest daughter, Kimberly, who was a great water exercise instructor-turned-lawyer specializing in Native American law. In October, California's governor signed a bill she wrote -
AB1325 Tribal Customary Adoption. What an honor! She worked on this very important piece of legislation for over a year.
Cathy, our daughter and Managing Director, was just elected V.P. of the
International Spa Association Foundation and to another two year term as President of the
Destination Spa Group. I am so proud of both girls. Our adopted daughter, Jocelyne, still runs our financial department and in her spare time hikes in Alaska. Our son Ken's internet company is now one of the top online rental businesses (see
www.mynewplace.com)
Nearly 77, Don is still blazing trails on The Oaks' hikes. And I competed in the National Adult Figure Skating Championships at Lake Placid, where I took five medals - four for First Place and one for Second. Being fit is truly a state of mind
and body.
I hope 2010 brings your much happiness, and I look forward to seeing you on your next visit.
Healthy Wishes!
Sheila
